THE FORGOTTEN WAR

The Forgotten War In Korea

When I started to write about the United States Marine Divisions who fought at the Chosin Reservoir, during the Korean War, I soon realized that I had to include much more information in order to understand what a magnificant and couragous battle it was for the marines, in spite of the huge loss of life.

I am going to make several posts on "The Forgottin War" which is often referred as a "police action". In posting about the Korean War, I will be posting official statistics, and narratives. In doing so it is necessary to describe many political and military matters in detail.

Before I do this I need to make clear what are my views and opinions about General Douglas MacArthur. First, I realize that he is the United States most highly decorated soldier of all time and that he is generally regarded as a military tactical genius. In spite of these facts, I believe that Douglas MacCarthur actions have caused more harm to the United States than any other general, and yes, that include Benedict Arnold.

I am not attempting to change anyone's opinion about General Douglas MacArthur, but I believe it would be unfair if I did not reveal my own opinion. I have many reasons for it, but I will state 3 important ones: (1) Douglas MacArthur has an offical record of being insubordinate to three presidents Herbert Hoover, Franklin D.Roosevelt and Harry S Truman,  (2) His making a disaster of the Korean War, (3) He was in charge of the beating, gassing and burning out of the vetrans of World War I "Bonus Marchers" in 1932.

Douglas MacArthur suffered under the delusions that he was "King of the Phillines", "the Czar of Japan" and could become the "Dictator of the United States."

Douglas MacArthur surrounded himself with Men like Gen. Almond (I wrote about him in the July 7th, 2010 post about the 92nd Infantry Division.) who could not get along with other Officerss that were not "cult followers" of Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

For the sake of fairness, even though I lived through this time period and am familiar with most of the  details, I will refrain from making any negative personal comments.  I will be using material from official government sources as well as writings from other respected sources.

The Korean war was given the term "The Forgotten War" because of the relatively small amount of attention it has recieved from the American public compared to the the other wars that we have been involved. Many of the veterans of the Korean War feel that they have been forgotten and neglected by their government.
